European Parliament calls on EU to stop Nord Stream-2
BRUSSELS, Apr 28 (PRIME) -- The European Parliament has called on the E.U. to stop construction of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline and construction of “controversial” nuclear plants by state nuclear corporation Rosatom, as seen by PRIME in a draft resolution released on Wednesday.
“The European Parliament… insists that the E.U. should reduce its dependence on Russian energy, and urges the EU institutions and all Member States, therefore, to stop the completion of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline and to demand a stop to the construction of controversial nuclear power plants built by Rosatom,” the statement read.
The Czech government excluded Rosatom from the list of candidates for participation in a tender for construction of the Dukovany nuclear power plant on suspicion that Russia’s intelligence service had been involved in a blast of an ammo warehouse in Vrbetice in 2014.
The European Parliament also called on the E.U. to impose an anti-corruption sanctions regime.
“The European Parliament… calls on the E.U. and its member states to draw on the U.K. legislative proposal for a global anti-corruption sanctions regime, and… underlines that E.U. member states should no longer be welcoming places for Russian wealth and investments of unclear origin… (and) continues to insist that Member States such as Cyprus, Bulgaria and Malta must abandon their ‘golden passport’ regimes,” the document read.
The parliament also suggested switching Russia off the international interbank settlement system SWIFT.
